The ecentre welcomes Innovator in Residence: Dr Aruna Shekar

We are excited to announce that Dr Aruna Shekar has joined the ecentre as “Innovator in Residence,” providing access to a depth of product innovation expertise and experience to members of our community.

Aruna is the Vice President at Product Development and Management Association (Asia-Pacific) and Honorary Academic at Massey University, where she taught for over 24 years, specialising in Product Development Innovation at the University's School of Engineering and Advanced Technology.

With a focus on bringing together industry and academia, Aruna has worked with companies including Fisher & Paykel and Gallagher on real-world projects with students.

Her interests are in best practice methods for creativity and design thinking, particularly for new product development. She has led a humanitarian course in conjunction with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) for four years, when her students won National and Australasian awards. Aruna has many publications in international journals, conferences and chapters in books. She is part of a successful team and recipient of a National MBIE grant to work on creating educational STEAM  resources for schools raising awareness of air quality, and her work has been published in international journals, books and conferences .

Aruna is also a Foundation Board member of Product Development & Management Association (PDMA) in New Zealand (since 2006), and Vice President for Global Affiliates (PDMA-USA) since 2016. She is one of a few that have successfully completed the NPDP (New Product Development Professional) Certification (PDMA-USA).
